LAZIUS, Wolfgang

1514 - 1565

Hungarian historian and cartographer whose work was published in Vienna. His early maps of Central Europe were used by Mercator and Ortelius, among others, in the preparation of their atlases.

It can be claimed that his Austrian atlas of 1561 was one of the first three national atlases, the others being by Johann Stumpf (Switzerland, 1548-52) and Christopher Saxton (1579).
