EITZINGER,Michel

Michael Eitzinger was a cartographer and historian in the
service of the Emperors Ferdinand II and Maximilian II, living for many
years in the Netherlands. He is best known for his history of the
revolt of the Netherlands entitled De Leone Belgico (Cologne,
1583).
He is also the inventor of the famous map of the Seventeen
Provinces in the shape of a lion.
